For most residential properties in England, carports fall under permitted development and don’t require planning permission. EV charger installations no longer require planning permission as of May 2025. If your property is listed or in a conservation area, restrictions may apply. We’ll flag anything relevant during your free site survey.
A lean-to attaches to your property and uses the existing wall as one side of the structure. A freestanding carport stands independently — no wall required. Both are available across all Smartport models. We’ll advise on which works best for your plot during the survey.
Installation typically takes between one and five days depending on the scope of your build. A single Smartport is usually completed in one day, a double in two. If your build includes a security bollard, groundworks are required which adds time. Any specific site conditions will also be assessed at your free survey and factored into the schedule. We’ll give you a clear timeline before we start.
