Most carports in England and Wales don’t need planning permission, they fall under Permitted Development as long as they’re a standard size and sit behind the front of your house. A few exceptions apply, listed buildings, Conservation Areas, and similar, and EV chargers don’t need permission either as of May 2025 in England. We’ll confirm exactly where you stand at your free design survey.
A lean-to attaches to your property and uses the existing wall as one side of the structure. A freestanding carport stands independently — no wall required. Both are available across all Smartport models. We’ll advise on which works best for your plot during the survey.
Installation typically takes between one and five days depending on the scope of your build. A single Smartport is usually completed in one day, a double in two. If your build includes a security bollard, groundworks are required which adds time. Any specific site conditions will also be assessed at your free survey and factored into the schedule. We’ll give you a clear timeline before we start.
A well-designed carport adds kerb appeal, covered parking, and usable outdoor space — all of which are valued by buyers. Smartport is designed to look like a considered home upgrade, not an afterthought. Independent research suggests a quality carport can add between 5 and 10% to property value.
Family is built around practical daily life — storage, bikes, family space. Tech is for EV owners who want charging integrated from the start. Adventure is for serious vehicles and the people who look after them. Not sure? Book a free survey and we’ll help you decide.
